Still grieving from the Orlando shootings, last night I learned about the tragic shootings in my home town of Dallas. Violence is ruthless and senseless. With each shooting and every bombing, my heart hurts. This world is broken; people are hurting and broken across the globe.
In the weeks following the Orlando massacre with each published shooting and bombing, my heart has been filled with sorrow over and over again. Across the world, in my country, and now in my city, senseless acts of violence continue to take their toll. Many will make this an opportunity to promote their personal agenda or elevate a political platform, while overshadowing the unconscionable loss of life.
Humanity in many ways has lost the ability to mourn and grieve. We have become desensitized to the reality that each shared image on social media represents a living, breathing human being whose life is has been cut short or injured. We may feel sad, we may question what is wrong with our world. Yet we move on until the next horrific event unfolds.
Today tragedy has hit home and I weep. For now, all I can do is pray and mourn with those who mourn. “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
