Love is a Verb: Silence

  1. “So simple yet so profound. Jobs friends sat in silence with him; they let him mourn and they mourned with him. As humans we rush the grief process; by wanting to fix things, to help, to relieve the pain, to the dull the ache, to take care of the problem; but in times of great personal tragedy, we can do none. In seasons of loss the best gift one can give is to be present.”

Words are empty, and can do little to heal so soon after this tragedy.
Being present in the middle of the pain, along with the willingness to be QUIET is indeed powerful.

You’re right when you state that we tend to Rush through grief. It’s a good point that I find myself pondering as well. Perhaps the goal of this is to somehow not fully allow what happened to wound us further? Maybe it’s about denial? Shock? To grab on to some sort of “normal”? Refusing to accept that the event has wounded us so much more than we are comfortable with? It begs questions we aren’t willing to ask ourselves; or aren’t strong enough to consider?

This all sounds like an attempt to control… when the truth is, we can’t control it.

There’s something BIGGER than us; and that fact is difficult to acknowledge.

Times like this, although wracked with pain and anguish, open doors to our souls.
The question remains: what to let in.

Prayerful over the families and loved ones that are hurting. Prayerful over you.
That He who can do ALL things is given access where not previously.
Jer 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
    That hope would be present
Psalm 62:5 “My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him.”
